Bohemia Interactive is hosting a free play weekend for DayZ to celebrate its release after five years of Early Access development.

From today until December 17, you can give DayZ a try for free through Steam.

The game left Steam Early Access today, and is also on sale for 15% off its Early Access price until Monday, December 17.

After that, the price will increase to $44.99/£31.99/€37.99.

Over the years, Early Access development of DayZ produced 1,300 Experimental updates on Steam, and over 19,000 bugs were squashed. The DayZ development team said it will continue to produce new content and features for the game along with continued support.

A road-map for post-release content will be announced the beginning of next year.

DayZ is also available through Xbox Game Preview, with the full launch scheduled for early 2019. It is also coming to PlayStation 4 later in 2019.

According to the developer, there is still a ton of work left ahead if DayZ is to become a successful game. "We want to thank every single one of you for your patience and endurance through the years. We know there is still a mountain of work ahead of us and the team is not taking this milestone as an opportunity to rest, but as a chance to recover, evaluate, and plan for future," is written in the Bohemian Interactive's statement on Steam.
