World of Warcraft DDoS Attacker Arrested

On September 7, as the servers buckled, World of Warcraft Classic players discovered their games tanking. The cause was a DDoS attack. It was rapidly found that somebody from the hacker group UkDrillas posted on the official subreddit of the game soon before the attack occurred. “In roughly 20-30mins. Will attack every US PVP WoW server. Just setting up domain =),” it said. A comparable attack also struck the servers of Overwatch, which UkDrillas also claimed. Blizzard soon confirmed they had been struck in a tweet by a DDoS.

A second DDoS attack struck both World of Warcraft variants the next day. Nobody asserted accountability for this assault unlike the first assault.

Community Manager Kaivax set out to provide some closure to players affected by the September 7-8 downtime in a September 19 post on the WoW forums.

Kaivax disclosed that the safety team of the company started to work with international law enforcement agencies to monitor the origin of the DDoS assaults as they started.

Now in custody with the supposed perpetrator, players should be able to enjoy their video games in peace and not have to worry about booting for the foreseeable future.
