replacing my laptop gpu

  • 1

hello ,

i do own an alienware 17 R1 , it comes with a GTX 860M and lately giving me some problems with crashs and not booting properly.

i want to replace the gpu with a same one ( not looking to spend more money on an upgarde )

the problem is the cards i found in aliexpress comes with different serial numbers and they are all 860m

do they work on my laptop or should i look for the one that match the serial numbers on the stickers as the one i have

will attach a picture to show which numbers i am talking about

See if you can find a 780M as it should be around the same price and is plug and play without any need for driver modifications. It will give you more performance that the 860M. Personally I'd stay away from Aliexpress but it's up to you.

Serial numbers will be unique for each individual card. As long as it's a standard MXM card then you should be good.

Did you try removing current drivers, and install drivers via 3DP chip?
