CDPR is Remaking The Witcher

  • 6

CD Projekt Red's first game was The Witcher, released over a decade ago in 2007. Since that time, The Witcher, game technology, and CDPR have grown immensely.

The Witcher is getting revamped to meet modern gaming standards using Unreal Engine 5. Fool's Theory, a Polish studio responsible for Seven: The Days Long Gone, will lead The Witcher Remake development with CDPR providing "complete creative supervision." Fool's Theory CEO previously worked as a quest designer on The Witcher 2 and 3, and CDPR has officially noted that others on the Fool's Theory team are familiar with The Witcher story and have prior dev experience on the game series.

CDPR has confirmed that The Witcher remake is their project Canis Majoris, one of five projects announced earlier this year. While all other details remain scarce, it's safe to say that The Witcher will see other polishing in the remake process. The game's unique, rhythm-based combat system will (most likely) be updated to a more common skill-based standard and other RPG elements will be polished for the current audience.

Will you replay the OG Witcher game? Did you play the 2007 version before, and if so, what do you think of the idea of a remake?

I like ducks.

I played the first game and really liked it, although the combat system could really use an overall rework. It feels clunky.

Not remastering, remaking... So CDPR put their hands on the very last & strongest hope now.
