Shadow of the Tomb Raider Will Feature The Biggest Hub World Ever

  • 1106

This month, Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics are giving a better look at the other half of the game. There are lots of combat, but exploration and puzzle elements are still as important.

$75 million-plus budget is a good reason to create a massive hub city “Paititi.” Lara can barter for gear, upgrade her translation abilities, and take on side quests from the locals. When bartering, Lara can use what she’s found in the nearby tombs and crypts to trade for crafting materials, weapons, and outfits. It’s a tough jungle out there, so Lara is going to have to gather as much as she can. One can never know what might come in handy whilst delving into a crumbling tomb.

"Paititi" is the biggest hub area in the series yet. In addition to picking up side quests and the location of challenge tombs, you can also interact with its barter-based economy. There are plenty of folk around, and talking to them may flesh out certain parts of the overarching story.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 14.

Oh for god sake, when is this "It's going to be the biggest ever", "Bigger than the previous game", "50x the size of other games" ,"Largest world ever created in a game"  bullcrap stop already? I firmly believe creating giant ass worlds in open world game these days is a negative, not a positive. They go so far in creating huge ass playgrounds but it's almost always disproportionate with its content, meaning the amount of content does not match with the size of their playground they created.

So what happens is that they resort in creating repetitive content to artificially fill that playground and they will have less distribution of effort in other areas of the game, which would've ended up a way better game had they not taken the effort and budget to create giant ass maps and hubs and whatever.

That's how they do it, they suck you in with an average quality game with tons of artificial content in it so you can rack up hours and hours of repetitive and average content. I'm not saying this new Tomb Raider game will be like this, but nowadays advertising your game with "It will be the biggest ever" is not something good to look forward.
