Microsoft buys Bethesda for $7.5bn

I didn't trust my eyes as I came across this news.

"Today is a special day, as we welcome some of the most accomplished studios in the games industry to Xbox. We are thrilled to announce Microsoft has entered  into an agreement to acquire ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks."

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox • Sep 21, 2020 @ 6:00am

" Microsoft is an incredible partner and offers access to resources that will make us a better publisher and developer. We believe that means better games for you to play. Simply put - we believe that change is an important part of getting better. We believe in pushing ourselves to be better. To innovate. To grow. "

as Beths SVP of PR & Marketing put it

I think Microsoft made a smart move in acquiring Zenimax/Bethesda to prove the narrative of XBox having too few exclusive titles wrong. This acquisition will also help to entice more consumers in buying the coming XBox Series X.

Of course it will still take some time until all the legal paperwork is approved by the authorities and the deal will be real.

From a gamer perspective I see a huge potential in so many talented studios under one roof. Maybe Bethesda will even develop a new game engine for their future releases for which we won't have to download a fan patch to actually prevent us from falling through the floor.
