Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2

CD Projekt Red informed their fans of what's going to come in patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077. The patch is planned to be released later this month. Among others, driving vehicles is going to become smoother and cops are not going to appear right behind the player anymore.

NCPD Quick Response Team too quick?

At this moment it is very hard to shoot somebody random on the streets of Night City without getting caught immediately. The moment you hit somebody, even though it was maybe a lost bullet while you were attacking a real bad guy, the police spawns everywhere around you and especially behind you in no time. Patch 1.2 is going to make changes in the way the cops act. The first thing the player will see is a police drone that will act as a scout for the police. That way it will take some time before the actual cops arrive at the scene.

“This is an important step in addressing the behaviour of the police in our game. It should decrease the problem of NPCs spawning behind players' backs and create an impression that it takes some time for the police to arrive at the crime scene after the crime has been reported. We've also added a recon "drone" unit to create the feeling of the police assessing the situation.” — Patryk, Lead Gameplay Designer & Łukasz, Technical Design Coordinator, CD PROJEKT RED

Vehicular manslaughter statistics higher than ever

Driving a vehicle needs to get updated on many fronts, starting from the new version of the game. There will be a steering sensitivity slider that will give more precision when steering a vehicle. That feature will not touch the optimal steering radius of the vehicles. On top of that, the developers also cleaned up some code which will make it possible to adjust the steering even at low framerates.

"Analyzing feedback on our driving model suggested a lot of players were having issues with the speed of the steering. Most complaints came from players using keyboards on PC or were on platforms with lower frame rates, and centred around how hard it was to keep cars off the sidewalks and such.

We have added a Steering Sensitivity slider to the Options menu. This allows the steering speed for all vehicles and all input devices to be slowed down, without affecting the maximum turn radius.

When experiencing lower frame rates, our cars were harder to control. We traced this to some code that wasn't handling extreme changes in frame rate properly. The steering speed is now very consistent from 20 to 60+ FPS.

Last, we looked at a bunch of tweaks to individual cars and adjusted some of them that were too twitchy in low frame rates, including the player's Archer Hella." — Séamus, Senior Vehicle Programmer, CD PROJEKT RED

To make it all over the top, the devs decided to give players the possibility to free their vehicle after they got stuck. It will be possible to rock your vehicle until the wheels are touching the ground in order to break free out of a sticky situation. In other words, the driver will always be able to get unstuck.

"There are cases where our vehicles can get beached or high centred on stuff in Night City. We have now added an Unstuck feature that kicks in when you are accelerating and not moving. While holding down the accelerator, you can now rock the vehicle forward or back, or rotate it left/right." — Séamus, Senior Vehicle Programmer, CD PROJEKT RED

Update your neuro processor drivers or die

Apparently, a lot of players are dealing with a lot of suicide deaths because of the dodging system in the game. To understand this, you must know the mechanism that hides behind dodging an attack. To dodge, or simply jump away from the attackers blow, the player needs to double-tap the direction keys. Now it seems that this dodging effect also occurs when not intended and when that happens at a certain hight ... I don't think I need to explain what the consequences are. Right! They stumble to their death. CDPR is going to implement the feature that will make players able to disable the dodge on double-tapping.

“Dodge on double-tapping a movement key can be turned off in the Controls settings. The Dodge action can still be performed by double-tapping the Crouch(toggle) action key (default C).

It should now be more feasible to move WASD bindings around the keyboard. There still remain a few bindings that need to be addressed, but these should be fixed in upcoming patches.” — Wojtek, Tools Programmer, CD PROJEKT RED

When this update is going to roll out is not clear. Earlier, CDPR said that the release of patch 1.2 was planned for the second half of March but in these patch notes they don't confirm nor deny this. In other words, they still have a week and a half to come with this update. CDPR also announced on their Twitter that the full patch notes are still to come later.

Cyberpunk 2077 got released on the 10th of December 2020 and got a lot of criticism for the many bugs and performance issues. All versions of the game are dealing with these issues, but the original PS4 and Xbox One consoles were dealing with the most problems. It was even so bad that the game got pulled out of the PlayStation Store and up until today, it didn't return. When the game is going to be available for PlayStation owners is not known either.
