What combat based games would you recommend?

  • 2

I'm referring to games that count with a deep combat system, which take skill and have a steep learning curve.

Here is mine: Exanima

I have been following this game for years, it's pretty good right now and has potential to become even better, note that it's in early access on Steam. The combat system is based on physics with complex mechanics, when you start you feel like a drunk fighter and it will be like that until you learn how to move and swing, these two things go together the force of your swing and therefore damage will be augmented with your movement, and of course experimented players can perform special moves which will blow your mind the only downside is that the development takes a lot of time and the community is kind of small.

But every update is amazing and filled with content, the developers make weekly blogs where you can read their progress, their transparency about the development of the game is something that never ceases to amaze me. In my opinion, the game is totally worth your time, because you can spend countless hours in the arena mode practising plus it has a story mode which is highly replayable. Great game.

Looking forward to read your recomendations guys!

Can you be a little more specific about what you mean by "combat"? Can you give other examples of games you like, that you're looking for?

If you talking about fighting games, Virtua Fighter 5. Seems simple but it is deceptively deep. I also enjoy pretty much any Street Fighter game, like Ultra Street Figher 4, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, Street Fighter Alpha 3, all versions of Street Fighter 2, and especially the Street Fighter EX games on playstation, which are actually a crossover with Fighting Layer.

Other fighting games I enjoy are Under Night In Birth, Project Justice/Rival Schools, Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter x Tekken.

But it sounds like you might be looking for MOBA type games instead? Can you clarify?

BTW "drunk physics" makes me think of Sumotori Dreams

Oh I'm so sorry for the ambiguity of the term! I meant medieval combat such as the one in Exanima, Hellish Quart, Mordhau, etc. but I will definitely check the ones that you suggested. Anyways sorry I was indeed referring to what Prosac0 stated.

how's the combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance?

Never played it myself and it's more like an RPG than an combat game, but i think i saw a video, with the combat explained and it wasn't that shallow, but also not deep or hardcore

also Sifu comes to my mind, with blocking mechanics and balance, but it's Kung Fu and not medieval

I played a little bit of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the combat is nice, but I think it aims for immersion and not depth or hardcore as you say.

And yes!! I had forgotten about Sifu it looks really cool, it's been on my wishlist and fits what i've been looking for, I might buy it this week.

Thanks for reminding me of that gem!
