Crossfire: Legion launches on Steam to Early Access today, wading into the RTS arena and a genre which has seen a resurgence in recent years. Check out the launch trailer.

Combining the RTS pedigree of developers Blackbird Interactive (Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak & Homeworld 3) with the world of Crossfire (one of the most played games ever), Crossfire: Legion brings a face-paced and modern take on the classics that are so loved by RTS fans. Indeed, all those involved wear their hearts on their sleeves for RTS and work with a respectful nod to those games that defined the RTS genre and a generation of gamers.

Set in the near future of the Crossfire universe, where society is crumbling and the world is consumed by corporate conflicts, three rival factions fight for the domination of their ideologies. Each offers players a unique play style and unit combinations to match and experiment with. One of the key aspects of the game is the Card System that will see players unlock new units as they play so that you can design andbuild a deck/roster of units to take into battle that best fits you and your goals.

At launch, and with the promise of more to come in the months ahead, Crossfire: Legion gives you up to 45 units to choose from. These range from infantry, vehicles, tanks, transports to air, all with their own unique abilities and upgrades to play with. Six commanders will be available to choose from who will grant special tide turning abilities while you customize your army, manage resources, consolidate your position, andpush forward to dominate the map.

With leaderboards and tournaments, Crossfire: Legion is set to offer a highly competitive and action filled multiplayer experience. There are also daily operations, custom skirmishes vs. A.I., alternate game modes and a COOP mode for you to craft all manner of strategies around. Early Access will also introduce the 1st Act of a narrative driven single campaign that RTS fans have come to enjoy so much. This will also serve as a tutorial for newer players and bring them up to speed.

Map making tools, Steam workshop, Replays and a Spectator mode are on the horizon which will help keep the player community energized and proactive. So far, the team has shown an open willingness to engage with the community and mold future development around their feedback.
