Silent Hill Franchise: New Games, Movie in Works

Although Konami is generally elusive when it comes to commenting on their game's developments, their recent Silent Hill Transmission Livestream revealed 5 new Silent Hill (SH) projects in the works.

Here are the major project details revealed (trailers linked in titles).

• Silent Hill 2 Remake
  • The SH2 Remake is being developed by Bloober Team (The Medium, Blair Witch, and Layers of Fear) and features the original SH2 art director (Masahiro Ito) and original composer (Akira Yamaoka) on the team.
• Silent Hill: Townfall
  • SH Townfall is being developed by No Code game (Stories Untold, Observation) and published by Annapurna Interactive. 
• Silent Hill f
  • SH f follows a new storyline set in 1960s Japan. The story is being written by Ryukishi07 (When They Cry), founder of the 07th Expansion doujin group. 
• Silent Hill: Ascension
  • SH Ascension is an ambitious project that looks to have audiences decide the narrative's course. According to Konami, Ascension is a "massively interactive live event" being developed by Bad Robot Games (part of JJ Abram's Bad Robot Productions), Behaviour Interactive (Dead by Daylight, Meet Your Maker, Flippin Misfits), and Genvid Technologies. Genvid is supplying the tech to create this immersive storytelling. In Konami press material, the company states they'll execute the story "by putting an all-new Silent Hill story and characters into the hands of the audience as the narrative unfolds, live on multiple platforms." It's an interesting concept to have viewers interact with the story on that global scale, but it's a tall order to deliver on.

We also have confirmation of a new Silent Hill movie, Return to Silent Hill, coming out in 2023. The film will be an adaptation of Silent Hill 2.

After living through an era of Resident Evil sequels and remakes, many horror game fans are excited about the revival of the Silent Hill series.
