Smite was/is free-to-play, but it still took longer than expected to complete.  Though, thankfully, we did complete it.  (I think the fastest completion might have been Path of Exile, which the community crushed in, I want to say, just 3 days.)

They really need to find a way to make everyone who joins the event contribute.  Like, have two different goals: personal hours and community hours.  For example, we need 5000 cumulative community hours to reach Milestone 1.  That could be the requirement to unlock the reward, but individuals aren't awarded it unless they've personally contributed, say, 1 hour.  That way people can't just join the event and never contribute a single hour to the community time but still reap the rewards.  If people were forced to contribute to claim the rewards, I think we'd reach the end goal much faster.Doesn't even have to be a lot of hours.  It could be as little as 1 hour for Milestone 1, then 2 more hours for Milestone 2, then an additional 3 for Milestone 3, etc.  All told, with 8 Milestones, we'd each have to play just 36 hours in total.  Or even just 1 hour per Milestone, for a total of 8 personal hours invested to be eligible for all rewards, provided the community hits the 35,000 hour goal for Milestone 8.  Everyone should be able to contribute just 8 hours, whether they bang it out in a single night, over a weekend, or play for just an hour a day for 8 days.  I don't know how many people typically participate in these events, or how many active members this community has, but we'd only need about 4400 people to contribute 8 hours apiece to reach the 35,000 hours to unlock all Milestones.

Regardless, it's really cool to see another event so soon, with another 10 Fragments as a reward.  It really feels like this site is coming alive in a big way lately.

Good suggestion to get rid of free riders yes
