Star Wars: Battlefront II Resurgence!

  • 14

Greetings fellow Aliens! If you haven’t seen it yet, our other fellows in the galaxy far, far away have returned to the battlefront to engage in galactic combat!

Okay, jokes aside. This is for real! Star Wars Battlefront II has had a resurgence of players jump back into the game a measly eight years after its rocky launch! Battlefront II has found new life through the sheer will of its community; what a beautiful thing for gaming! It almost looks like Helldiver 2 calls-to-action memes, and I love it. Some say it’s fuel from the Andor series, some say we have jump timelines with a deeper sense of the Force. Whatever it may be, Battlefront II has recently broken player count records – as of writing this, the new record was reached on May 26th, 2025, with 18,524 players on the blasting and slashing lightabers!

If you weren’t here for the launch of Battlefront II, it had a bit of a rough start. The game was burdened by controversy and microtransactions. The devs eventually transformed the game into a beloved multiplayer experience, largely thanks to consistent fan support, modding efforts, and a deep-rooted love for this galaxy. This new passionate resurgence is bringing old and new players alike, creators, and even Star Wars actors, like those from Andor, back into the fold! Players are taking to social platforms like TikTok, Reddit, and X, posting clips of large-scale space battles, heroic last stands, and cinematic duels that are spreading like wildfire. All of these fans sharing nostalgia-fueled montages alongside are calling for something more, hello Battlefront III!

Now, something... something, Darkside. Despite this momentum, EA's recent announcements cast a shadow on the future of a potential Battlefront III. The company has shut down Cliffhanger Games and canceled the Black Panther project, citing a renewed focus on its "pillar" franchises. Although they say they will still make the next Star Wars titles in the Jedi series, and a new turn-based game called Zero Company. Other titles like Battlefield, The Sims, SKATE, and Apex Legends have been name-dropped as those focus pillars, but there's no mention of more Battlefront. It feels like the force is strong with the fans, but missing entirely from EA’s current vision of what the fans want!

This disconnect between community desire and corporate direction makes the dream of Battlefront III seem rather fleeting. Players have shown there’s still a massive appetite for this kind of large-scale, cinematic Star Wars experience. They’ve revived a game once left behind and turned it into something that still rivals modern shooters in terms of immersion and scale. But right now, that energy is being poured into a series that EA has possibly stopped supporting.

And maybe that’s what makes the revival so beautiful. It’s not driven by marketing cycles or publisher roadmaps. It’s powered by the community alone. People love this game! They believe in its potential. They’re willing to build, share, and fight for it even when the odds look grim. That kind of passion can’t be faked! Some would say, the power of these passionate gamers is our last hope

Whether EA chooses to recognize it or not, the resurgence of Battlefront II stands as proof that players haven’t given up on the series. They’ve simply taken it into their own hands. And with every new highlight clip, mod showcase, or rallying tweet, the dream of Battlefront III lives on. Even if it remains just that for now -- just a dream.

So, tell me! What are your thoughts on Battlefield II? Are you playing at all? Are you a fan of the game? Who is your favorite Jedi and/or Sith? How much do you love Jar-Jar Binks? Would you like to play Battlefield III?

All great questions we should chat about in the comments below!

I never played Star Wars: Battlefront II. Honestly, all the loot box abuse back then completely turned me off from the game. How are microtransactions handled nowadays?

They literally non exist! Removed all in-game purchases everything unlockable via playing the game or buying the deluxe edition - I got mine from Epic when it was free - so this way you can access all skins and other stuff. Weapons and cards still need gameplay time to unlock, but some weekend you can earn double XP. The game now has content - planet, locations, weapons, characters and skins - from all 11 SW movies and beyond. PVE 4 player co-op experience and crazy mode like the Ewok Hunt!

This one is easily among -if not at the top- the best looking games EVER.

It's a showcase of what a beast Frostbite is, and even being a beast, it was optimized AF!!

I'm still surprised how back then, a 3GB GPU (GTX 1060) could manage to run such a visual feast while nowadays you have to drop graphics quality to near-PS2 looks to make a game playable (if at all) on such hardware.

I'm not much into MP games, but may as well replay the campaign, since I played it a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....

Ive played battlefront 2 when it first came out, at the time it did have a rough start but now I do enjoy it with my fam and friends
