5 Bangers from Gamescom Opening Night Live!

Greetings Gamers!!

It’s that time of year again! Opening Night Live just happened at Gamescom in Germany, and we had a TON of game reveals, new game trailers, hype for a TV show, beautiful live music, and then more games! If you tuned in, you know exactly what I’m talking about! If you missed it, well, allow me to share five bangers from Gamescom Opening Night Live that are definitely making it to my game's library in the coming months as we head into 2026!

Before we get into the games though I do have to just shoutout the World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion, that is my personal winner. But that feels too biased, so I made a list without it! With that being said, and in no particular order, check out these bangers from Gamescom Opening Night Live!

Lords of the Fallen 2

Release Date: 2026
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Epic Games Exclusive)

No, it’s not a myth. The Lords of the Fallen sequel officially dropped its first reveal trailer during Opening Night Live. Developed by Hexworks and positioning itself as a more accessible yet still brutal follow-up to the 2023 reboot, it’s built in Unreal Engine 5 and slated for a 2026 launch across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but with a twist: Epic Games Store exclusivity. The hype train is officially departing, and I am well on it!

Black Myth: Zhong Kui

Release Date: TBD
Platforms: TBD (likely all major platforms including PC)

I and other fans of Black Myth: Wukong collectively held our breath as the Game Science team confirmed a Gamescom appearance. And when that trailer went on and “Game Science” hit my screen, I knew it was going to be hype! Today we saw the team announce Black Myth: Zhong Kui! The next installment of souls-like deeply rooted in Chinese mythology; instead of the Monkey King, this time we have the demon hunter himself, the King of Ghosts, Zhong Kui! So stoked for this one as well!

Resident Evil: Requiem

Release Date: February 27, 2026
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam)

I mean I don’t know if there is much needed to say about this one. The iconic shooter series is back with another banger! Capcom teased an exclusive, extended look at Resident Evil: Requiem during Gamescom Opening Night Live that had me shook, I was yelling for Mom to watch out the whole time! Horror fans, sharpen your survival instincts and load your bullets, the nightmare’s coming back soon with extra bite!

Ghost of Yōtei

Release Date: October 2, 2025
Platforms: PS5 Exclusive

Sucker Punch stepped up to the Gamescom stage with their next-gen follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima: Ghost of Yōtei. If you haven’t played Ghost of Tsushima, stop what you’re doing and go play it! Set 300 years later, the trailer gave us glimpses of snowy vistas, brutal sword clashes, and atmospheric survival storytelling. It definitely looks like it’s going to live up to the hype of its predecessor! It’s coming October 2 for PS5 and yes, it looks every bit worth the wait -- and even longer for those like me who have to wait for that PC port!

Project Spectrum

Release Date: TBD
Platforms: PC (other platforms pending)

While not officially confirmed in mainstream reports, Project Spectrum was heavily teased via advisory chatter and slide reveals during Opening Night Live. The teaser we got during ONL was a story teaser that gripped and didn’t let go. I am honestly not sure what I even watched but I am getting potentially horror co-op/pvp shooter? The YT description cryptically says, among other things, “...become the hunter or the hunted” which also leads me to this conclusion! The game looks incredibly horror-vibrant and fast-paced within that stylized aesthetic. It was one of the trailers that definitely hooked me, and I added it to my list instantly! Check out the trailer above!

Well, there you have it! These games stole the show for me personally! I am stoked for each and every one of them, and this was only five of them! The list I made was a lot longer and I had the hard decision of whittling that down into a bite sized list! Cheers to all the developers making these incredible games and individuals involved in making this event happen each year! Next up? The Game Awards 2025 on December 11th!

But this is just MY list! I want to hear from you! What games were you stoked for? Similar tastes, completely different? That’s what makes us unique! Let’s chat about it in the comments below!

The trailer for Project Spectrum looks very interesting, but if it's a multiplayer game like the trailer suggests, I have zero interest in playing it.
