Valve will soon ask for your phone number if you want to play the ranked matches in DOTA 2
Valve has opted itself for a number of changes to online popular service DOTA 2. We know that some players will cheer the return of Solo Queue, which guarantees play against other solo players, and the new matchmaking system for parties will take into account the average skill of the group and its individuals who are maybe much better or worse. Details you can read on official blog.
Our eye got caught by the change regarding the ranked matches for which Valve is concerned that they are disrupted by players who are playing with multiple accounts. In order to prevent this in the future, they have introduced a requirement that all players who want to play the ranked match will have to match their phone number and until 4.5., otherwise you will not be able to play the matches until you do so.
If you change your phone number you can remove the old one and instantly add a new one, but the old number cannot be used in another account for the next three months, which will ensure that players will not simply re-transfer accounts. Also, it seems that it has to be a real phone number at some teleoperator because Valve will not accept the numbers obtained through certain online services.
