GTA 5 has earned more money than any other entertainment product in history

And birds on the branches already know that GTA 5 is one of the best-selling games in history. However, the information provided by MarketWatch gives an interesting perspective to this fact. According to Cowen's financial analysts, Rockstar has sold around 90 million copies of GTA 5 over the past five years, suggesting that it has earned more than six billion US dollars.

No other product in the entertainment industry came even close to that. For comparison, MarketWatch says that the most profitable movie of all time, Avatar, did not make even half of what the GTA 5 managed to make. However, it is difficult to take this comparison seriously because Avatar did not have microtransactions, and exactly this kind of subsequent spending (after buying the game itself) secured these earnings.

It's also interesting that GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas and GTA 4 combined did not sell more copies than GTA 5. One of the reasons for the success is that the game was a intergenerational title, or it came out for as many as five platforms. A bit surprisingly, most of the games were sold for the PlayStation 3 console - 32.8%. The PC version in the total pie went pretty unnoticed and only 2.1% of the sales were realized on the PC platform.

Well the whales are pouring the money all the time, so no big surprise.
Nowadays its either a few days or week of grinding money to buy one new vehicle, or just pay get the shark card for 99$ and voila suddenly you can buy anything new in update >.>

Interstellar

I think there are a lot of ways to measure these things and not sure it is the most in history. Having said that it is very impressive and obviously a lot of people have GTA 5.
